Erratic weather and super typhoons don't just disrupt cropping calendars. They push farmers and their families in Dolores, Eastern Samar, deeper into debt. It's a cycle that has long needed interrupting.

Together with Oxfam Pilipinas, Grameen Pilipinas Microfinance Inc. (GPMI) developed Insurance for Agriculture Disaster Preparedness and Early Action, or I-AgrE, an anticipatory action program that lets farmers file claims before a typhoon makes landfall, giving them time to move equipment and begin early harvests. I was commissioned to photograph and write the stories of farmers who participated in the pilot.
